For the second consecutive year, two H-Town WNBR organizers participated in the New Orleans World Naked Bike Ride on 14 June. Turnout was approximately 400 riders despite predictions of heavy rain. And wow, holy Lady Godiva, did it rain!
The weather held off for the pre-ride paint-up in Mickey Markey Park, and then for at least half the duration of the ride through Bywater and the Vieux Carre. Then the skies opened up. Parts of the route had several inches of standing water mere minutes after the rain began. Body paint and glitter were no match for the deluge.
The drenching shower continued through the end of the ride, making the traditional post-ride group photo impractical if not impossible. Instead riders chose to dance naked in the rain. Riders could thank Mother Nature for not adding any lightning in the immediate area.
A few dozen participants then moved on to a local bar for the clothing-optional after-party, followed by a No-Pants dance party at another location.
As they did the previous year, the Houston-area riders spent Friday and Saturday nights camping out at Indian Hills Nudist Park in Slidell, Louisiana, the state’s only such resort, about 40 minutes’ drive from central New Orleans.
Here is a library of photos (pre-ride and pre-rain only as of this posting) from Carlos Gonzalez on Shutterfly.
